Ken Doctor, MA ’79, an SOJC Hall of Achievement honoree, has formally announced plans for a new digital outlet in Eugene. Lookout Eugene-Springfield is set to debut in early 2025 with a 15-person news staff.

SOJC’s Immersive Media Communication Master’s degree is the first of its kind in the nation to focus on using virtual, augmented, and extended reality through a strategic communication lens.

Andrew Griffin has joined the “Highway 58 Herald” in Oakridge as a full-time assistant to the editor. Griffin graduated in June with a degree in journalism.

Jonathan Bach has been hired by the Oregonian to cover housing and commercial real estate. While at UO, he was editor of “Ethos” magazine. He graduated in 2016 with a degree in journalism.

The UO Alumni Association is celebrating Pride Month and the diverse identities of alumni identifying as LGBTQ+, including SOJC alumni Randy Shilts ’77, Sally Sheklow ’76, and Bethany Grace Howe ’19.

Zaria Parvez, the witty social media maven behind Duolingo’s viral TikToks, started working at the company right after she graduated from the SOJC in 2020. It was the only job she applied for.
