Meet our Journalism Program Alumni

Our J-grads build crossfunctional and transferable skills that can translate to a career in any medium, from digital and multimedia storytelling to documentary filmmaking. They also graduate with an entrepreneurial mindset that allows them to evolve with the industry, with many potential paths to success. See what some of our outstanding alums are up to now:

Jessie Rae Price credits the SOJC for teaching her about ethics, angles, and unbiased reporting as she covers entertainment for the E! News’ social media team.
Emma Decker’s SOJC degree led her to an internship with Oregon Public Broadcasting, which then led her to a job producing multimedia stories for Portland-based Blue Chalk Media.
Multimedia journalist, digital editor, photographer, and SOJC alum Polly Irungu went from NPR to becoming the official photo editor for the Biden-Harris Administration’s Office of the Vice President.
The late Randy Shilts, SOJC alum, journalist, and author, was perhaps the most significant gay journalist of the 20th century.
Marine combat veteran turned journalist Mat Wolf has reported from the front lines facing violent riots, mortar shells, and car bombs to get the story.
Power couple Molly Bedford, editor for the New York Times, and Ryan Knutson, host of the Wall Street Journal’s flagship podcast, met at the SOJC through a mutual love of journalism.
Journalism alum Judy Holtz’s journey as a multimedia storyteller started with a passion for photography and led to a career as a video producer.
