Gudrun Granholm
Biography
Gudrun Granholm is the founder and CEO of Box One, Inc., a firm specializing in custom financial trainings for “operational” professionals, managers, and executives. She has devoted her career to helping managers quickly understand the financials from a strategic perspective.
Gudrun is a thought leader in financial communication and brings to each engagement the practical, real-world experience of a seasoned CFO, blended with a great desire to help managers understand “what’s behind the numbers.” Her trainings are highly interactive and use real-life case studies, role playing, and focus groups.
Prior to founding Box One, Gudrun served in a variety of financial roles, from financial analyst at the Washington Post Company, controller for the Smithsonian’s business area, and CFO of Hanna Anderson. Starting in 1985 she founded a financial firm that eventually led to the formation of Box One. She later acquired a Portland-based technology firm to focus on the software development component of the business.
Her training and consulting includes multi-year engagements with a broad range of Fortune 500 companies, including ThermoFisher Scientific, Cisco Systems, Standard Insurance, Columbia Sportswear, San Diego Children’s Hospital, Mercy Corps, HP, and Regence Group. Gudrun has created and delivered custom financial lectures and trainings for nationally recognized universities and associations, including University of Oregon, PSU, OHSU, UCSD, UCI, UCSC, and UCR. Participants from a wide range of industries have attended, with a strong focus on healthcare and biotech, technology-based organizations, as well as retail and distribution. She has been creating and delivering online courses since 2018 targeted to healthcare and biotech, technology, and executive education.
Gudrun has been a Venture Investor with the Oregon Venture Fund since 2014, and previously an investor with Angel Oregon. She was appointed to the Oregon Growth Board in 2020 by the governor and has been an active volunteer for educational and nonprofit organizations, including Adelante Mujeres, Portland Women’s Foundation, Girl Scouts–Columbia River Council, Portland Youth Philharmonic, YWCA of Portland, and the Stanford Business School Alumni Association. She was elected to Stanford Associates membership in 2010.
Gudrun received her BA from Harvard University and her MBA from Stanford University Business School.
