Mercy Vanderpuye is a PhD student in communication and media studies at the University of Oregon. She has an interdisciplinary foundation in film and African studies, where her research examined African cinema through Marxist, political economy, and postcolonial perspectives, with particular interest in class, ideology, and resistance. Her current research interests include product placement in African media, strategic communication, media economics, visual culture, and the political economy of film industries in the Global South. Beyond academia, she is committed to advancing sustainable funding strategies for film and media industries in the Global South, especially Ghana.
