Biography

Charlie Deitz attained his master's degree and Ph.D. from right here at the University of Oregon; technically a Double Duck. His master's work looked into the ethical quagmire of reporters covering mass shootings. His doctoral work looked deeply into the relationship between 19th century newspapers and the powerful insane asylum system.

Prior to academia, Deitz was the Berkshire Bureau Chief with NPR affiliate WAMC Northeast Public Radio.

You can find Professor Deitz advising the award-winning FLUX Magazine in winter and spring terms. He also teaches a media and disability course and some critical media theory courses in addition to reporting fundamentals and writing courses.
