Congratulations, Class of 2026!
Today marks the culmination of something remarkable—years of hard work, creative risk-taking, and growth that have prepared you to go out and shape the world through the power of communication.
It has not always been easy. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and frustration. But you pushed through, and in doing so, you discovered something essential about yourself: You have what it takes.
Take a moment to let that sink in. You’ve earned this.
This day belongs not only to you, but to everyone who supported your journey, from faculty and advisors to the family and friends who believed in you even when you weren’t sure you believed in yourself. Their pride today is real, and so is ours.
What you’ve built here goes beyond a degree. You’ve done the work—not just in classrooms, but in newsrooms, agencies, labs, and communities. You’ve broken stories, built campaigns, crafted immersive experiences, conducted crucial research, and developed strategies grounded in both data and human truth. You’ve pushed each other across disciplines and across comfort zones. Those moments of real creative risk, and the relationships with your peers who took them alongside you, are yours to keep.

Ceremony Guidelines
We ask that our graduates and audience members maintain reasonable and appropriate behavior at all times during the ceremony to ensure it is enjoyable for all participants. Items that may disturb others are not allowed, including noisemakers, air horns, confetti poppers, and balloons. The staff of Matthew Knight Arena and the UO School of Journalism and Communication reserve the right to relocate or remove anyone who is creating a disturbance during the ceremony.
Note to Attendees
Please remain in the arena for the duration of the ceremony, even after you or your graduate receive a diploma cover, to avoid disrupting the event, and out of respect for your fellow graduates and their guests.
Photography
Professional photographers will take photos of the graduates as they receive their diploma covers. Graduates will receive an email to their @uoregon email address from GradImages to order photos online 48 hours after today’s ceremony. Per fire marshal restrictions, guests are not permitted on the floor of Matthew Knight Arena. Please remain seated when taking photos. We encourage you to take advantage of the many beautiful backdrops around campus for capturing your graduation day memories. The School of Journalism and Communication also has a photographer taking candid photos throughout the ceremony. These photos will be made available on the SOJC Flickr page.

Honoring Native Peoples and Lands
The University of Oregon is located on Kalapuya Ilihi, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people. Following treaties between 1851 and 1855, Kalapuya people were dispossessed of their indigenous homeland by the United States government and forcibly removed to the Coast Reservation in Western Oregon. Today, descendants are citizens of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians of Oregon, and continue to make important contributions in their communities, at UO, and across the land we now refer to as Oregon.
We express our respect for all federally recognized tribal nations of Oregon. This includes the Burns Paiute Tribe; the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians; the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon; the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon; the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation; the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs; the Coquille Indian Tribe; the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians; and the Klamath Tribes.
