Beginning in fall 2018, our new Professional Master’s in Brand Responsibility will educate future professionals for work in the communications industries on brand communication and other activities that will make a difference in the world. This new program will train students to tackle today’s key issues head on, which in turn will improve the quality of media, communications, and society.
The advertising industry is increasingly aware of the responsibility brands have to create a better world. A recent study of advertising agency leadership by program co-directors Deborah Morrison and Kim Sheehan found that more than 80 percent of respondents agree that brands have a responsibility to improve societal conditions for all people. The same percentage believe in the concept of industry efficacy: the idea that companies involved in branding have the skills and resources to address important social issues.
Students in this program will develop critical, conceptual, and creative skills to solve problems responsibly for people and brands in a global economy.
