For “pre-journalism” status
Incoming freshmen or transfer students: Indicate on your application to the university that you want to major in journalism. The Office of Admissions will accept you as a “pre-journalism” major. There is no separate application to the journalism school. If you have already been admitted under a different major and wish to change to “pre-journalism” before attending orientation, contact the Office of Admissions.
Current UO students: Fill out the form to add “pre-journalism” as a major. Current UO students must have a UO GPA of 2.00 or better to declare “pre-journalism.”
For full major status
All students must complete the lower-division core before applying for full major status. Students who meet the minimum requirements may use the online form. Students who don’t may wish to petition for full major status. These students should use the hardcopy form. Students completing their last core class(es) may turn in the form during finals week. The application will remain pending until grades for the term are released.
For the media studies minor
