Virtual ceremony released at 10 a.m. PDT

Congratulations, Ducks!

The 2021 University of Oregon commencement, including the School of Journalism and Communication ceremony, will be held virtually this year. The UO is hosting two in-person activities for graduates. Updates on the UO celebration are on the university’s commencement website.

Graduation Checklist

Calling all 2021 grads! Make sure you complete all the steps below to receive your degree and fully participate in this year's activities:

1. Apply for your degree.

Applying for your degree is different than opting in to participate in commencement! Undergraduates must apply by April 25, 2021, via DuckWeb. Graduate students should apply for their degree using GradWeb.

2. Register to participate in Commencement.

Class of 2021 graduates who wish to participate in commencement activities this year must opt in by May 10, 2021. Completing this step is mandatory. Each eligible graduate who registers will receive a commemorative UO celebration box.

3. Confirm how your name will appear in commencement materials.

You’ll need to verify your name in two places. When you opt-in to commencement activities, you’ll have a chance to verify how your name will appear in the virtual ceremony. Then, check how it will look in the SOJC commencement program. If you have a change, you’ll need to submit it in both places.

4. Make sure you're on the list to receive UO and SOJC celebration gifts.

Each eligible graduate who opts in to commencement by May 10 will receive a commemorative UO celebration box, plus a package with SOJC keepsakes, including commemorative programs and swag! Tip: To ensure you receive your gifts, make sure your mailing address is current in DuckWeb.

5. Complete your SOJC Senior Exit Survey (undergraduates only).

Keep an eye out for an email from SOJC Student Services with a link to fill out the survey.

6. Purchase regalia.

This is optional. The Duck Store is your one-stop shop for all commencement gear, including caps and gowns, announcements, and diploma frames. All graduates will receive a diploma cover free of charge.

Virtual SOJC Ceremony

We’re partnering with StageClip again this year to incorporate many elements of our traditional ceremony into a virtual event:

  • Individual recognition of each graduate, including a video, photo, and short message
  • Our student-produced commencement video
  • Keynotes from the dean, student speaker Sydnee Walker, and SOJC alum Heba Kanso
  • Special messages from SOJC faculty and staff

To watch the ceremony, go to the UO Commencement Ceremonies webpage at 10 a.m. PDT on June 12 and find the link for SOJC.
