Accusations of media bias come from both liberals and conservatives; however, the kind of bias they report is generally the result of a confluence of causes—some conscious, some unconscious. In order for us to make sense of the roots of media bias, we need to take a closer look at the assumptions that nourish it, with an eye to understanding not criticism.
