As a college town and home to a number of small, large and growing schools, Eugene is populated by a far greater number of young people than many other cities in Oregon. This diverse community of students and professionals has fostered an equally varied entertainment scene with numerous theaters, stages, clubs, galleries, and cinemas. Local businesses and entertainment venues offer an array of live music, dancing and theatrics comprehensive enough to sate any palate. The problem that many students find is that either arts events are too pricey or cater exclusively to the 21-and-over crowd. Most downtown clubs and venues restrict access of live-music events to those of legal drinking age. Even Eugene's two jazz bars require an ID check prior to entry. But poor and "underage" students need not stay at home on a Saturday night. Between University and community events, Eugene features a number of passive and interactive arts events almost every day of the week. What is there to do in Eugene? Think about dancing, gaming, crafting or acting. In the mood to be passively entertained? Try out the local theaters and downtown cabarets; they offer student discounts and rarely restrict based on age. There's a little something for everyone in this town. |
