Individual Writing Project (50pts)

Due in class on Dec. 3.

This assignment is a simple one and is only graded as completed or not. It is a communication community-service assignment.

1. Find an individual, group or organization who/which has limited resources (resources being defined as money, as well as time, training, ability, attitude) to communicate to the community or an agency or institution, but still has a message (specific/general) he/she/it would like to share. This could be an organization you belong to. It could be your grandmother. It could be a homeless family camping in a church parking lot.
2. Write a letter for this person or organization to the appropriate agency (a letter to the editor of a local newspaper, state or national newspaper, magazine, service agency, school principal, etc.). If you like and the person or group you are writing for are interested, you could write in the form of a opinion-editorial piece which would allow you between 750-1000 words. Provide the person or organization with the opportunity to review and, if desired, send the letter.
3. Length: However long it takes. It could be 50 words or 500.
4. Turn in a copy of what you have written with your name on it. Please delete any information (names, etc.) that whoever you are writing for would find inappropriate to share with our class.
