Group Assignment One— (25pts)

Due in class on Oct. 8.

Please provide, in typewritten form, the following:

  1. List the names of the people in your group and your group number.
  2. Designate one person to serve as a contact with the instructors.
  3. Have each person register for a class computer account. Exchange campus e-mail addresses.
  4. To make the most of our group work please:
    1. Be responsible for completing the individual tasks assigned to you to the best of your ability and in a timely manner, and bear your fair share of the work load.
    2. Contribute to group discussions, decision making and provide a supportive environment for all to participate. This means speaking up, but also paying attention to how much you speak so that others can also contribute.
  5. Complete the following assignment.
    1. As a group, interview each member of your group. For each group member find out:

      A)Where they are from and what their expected major is.

      B) if they have any kind of media experience.

      C) what media they pay attention to on a regular basis and why (television programs, magazines, musical groups, radio, internet sites, books, games, newspapers, etc.). Be as specific as comfortable.

      D) what their favorite television program is? Favorite music group? Movie?

    2. After completing all of the interviews, as a group provide typewritten answers to the following questions:
    1. What seems to be the most popular media among group members? Are there differences between men and women, younger and older students, where they are from?
    2. What seems to be the most popular media content for group members? Again, what might account for differences?
    3. If you were a 50 year-old newpaper columnist looking at your list of favorite television programs, what might that list tell him/her about what students are thinking about these days?
    4. If you were that same 50 year-old newpaper columnist looking at your list of favorite movies, what might that list tell him/her about what students are thinking about these days?
    5. Finally, one more time, attempt to inhabit the mind of that 50 year-old newpaper columnist and look at your list of favorite music groups. What might this tell him/her about what students are thinking about these days?
