Media Production Studio – Allen 110/120

The Allen Hall media production studio is a multi-use space for studio photography, interviews, video production, and video broadcasting. The studio is a key work space for students in advanced photography and studio lighting courses, and it is the main lab location for Oregon News, the broadcast news capstone course that produces weekly live newscasts every spring. Duck TV, the SOJC’s largest student group, produces weekly newscasts, sportscasts, and creative shows in the production studio year-round.

Technology and studio production equipment includes:

  • HD studio cameras
  • Multi-source video broadcast switcher that integrates video, audio and camera feeds from the studio with custom SOJC news graphics and green screen technology
  • Studio lighting for video and photography, including a customizable lighting grid, portable light kits, and strobe kits
  • Teleprompters and news rundown creating software
  • Live streaming and cable broadcast
  • Studio backgrounds and set options include:
  • News desk for up to six people
  • Customizable interview set
  • Interchangeable set pieces, including video monitors, coffee tables, and podiums
  • Variety of backgrounds for portraits, interviews, and newscasts, including solid black, white, grey and blue, and a news set background inspired by the Pacific Northwest and designed by SOJC staff and students
  • Green screen for weather segments, interviews, and virtual sets

Audio Recording Studios – Allen 110A and 110B

Allen Hall has two audio recording studios: one for podcasting and in-person interviews and one for phone interviews and voice-over recording. Students in all majors across the SOJC use the audio recording studios to record interviews, sound effects, and voice-over tracks for multimedia projects and audio slideshows.

The podcasting studio, Allen 110A, includes:

  • Seating for up to four people
  • Sound dampening on the interior walls to create the optimal recording environment
  • Tables for laptops and audio recorders during recording sessions

Phone Interview and Voice-Over Studio

The phone interview and voice-over studio, Allen 110B, includes:

  • A Mac workstation with the full suite of SOJC audio and video editing software, including Audition and Audacity for audio recording and Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere for video and multimedia editing
  • Recording technology for recording interviews via telephone
  • Studio microphone set up to record voice-overs and interviews directly to the computer
  • Sound dampening on the interior walls to create the optimal recording environment

The audio recording studios are work spaces that are available to all SOJC students and can be reserved for student use via WebCheckout.
