[Pre-FALL 2009 curriculum]

The Electronic Media (JEM) major is the only four-year video production and electronic journalism program in the state. The major's primary mission is to prepare undergraduates for professional careers or for advanced studies in all electronic-media fields, production of documentaries, TV/radio news and public-affairs programs. Its documentary video program serves not only students in the school but also attracts students from around the university.

Students and faculty work in the state-of-the-art Chambers Electronic Media Center. The CEMC brings students into daily contact with digital and conventional production tools in a flexible and versatile facility. Experienced and forward-looking faculty continue to be the heart of the program. Their teaching emphasizes faculty-student interaction well beyond the norm, as well as production for broadcast. There is an aura of professionalism, enthusiasm and commitment that students quickly absorb.

Faculty: Jon Palfreman, Gabriela Martinez, Dan Miller, Jim Upshaw, Rebecca Force.

Other things you should know about this major:

  1. Effective Fall 2009, the Electronic Media major became part of the larger Journalism major. Students who started "pre-journalism" before Fall 2009 may still choose Electronic Media as a sequence. Students who start "pre-journalism" Fall 2009 or later must choose the new Journalism major.
  2. Electronic Media courses have to be taken in sequence and they are not offered every term. It is not possible to complete this sequence in one year.
  3. J408 workshops are offered every term. (Pay attention to the schedule each term. Workshops are often added after the initial registration period is over.)
  4. Not all J408 workshops are appropriate for Electronic Media majors. Some J408 workshops are specifically for other majors. Discuss your J408 selection with your faculty adviser.
  5. J406 Variety Production (Duck U or Duck TV) credits do not count as J408 workshop credits.
