[Pre-FALL 2009 curriculum]
The Advertising (JAD) major is committed to building on the base of a broad liberal arts education and the school's core requirements with a series of professional courses designed to reflect the state of the art in industry. The Advertising faculty have eclectic professional and academic backgrounds, well-suited to support the program. The full-time members who teach regularly all have industry experience. In addition to the regular and occasional adjunct faculty, the sequence regularly draws on advertising professionals, with as many as 50 visitors a year to individual classes. In addition, the program offers special workshops for students taught by industry experts. Current student organizations in Advertising include Ad Team, Ad Society and Allen Hall Advertising. Faculty: Charlie Frazer, Harsha Gangadharbatla, Dave Koranda, Ann Maxwell, Deborah Morrison, Kim Sheehan.

Other things you should know about this major:
- You may take J340 Principles of Advertising while still a premajor. However, you should probably wait until sophomore year before taking it. You should take J201 before J340.
- You must complete the (b) section of the sequence requirements before you are eligible to take J448 Advertising Campaigns. J448 is offered every fall, winter and spring.
- You need departmental authorization to take J448. An email is sent to JAD students a week before registration begins informing them of the authorization process.
- Advertising courses are typically not offered in the summer. Not all courses are offered every term.
- J449 Advanced Advertising Campaigns is credit awarded to the students on Ad Team. Although Ad Team members are encouraged to take J448 first, students who do not may count J449 as a substitute for J448 to complete the sequence requirements.
