Orientation and Registration

Before you can register for classes, you must attend a University of Oregon orientation. See UO Student Orientation for more details.

New student registration happens in three steps:

  1. Get advised at orientation. For fall freshmen, there are two orientation possibilities: IntroDUCKtion in July or Week of Welcome in September. Fall transfer students have one more option: new transfer student advising in May. Winter and spring term admits are advised in a mid-year orientation.
  2. Get your registration PIN. The adviser who advises you in one of the sessions above will give you your registration PIN. You log onto DuckWeb using your student ID and PAC, then input your registration PIN to activate the registration screen. You will not need your registration PIN again.
  3. Register at your earliest priority. Even if a class you want is full, register for a full schedule as quickly as you can. You can always make adjustments later.

Note: UO students register for courses one term at a time. For returning students, priority registration for fall term happens during the eighth and ninth weeks of spring term. Priority registration for winter term happens during the eighth and ninth weeks of fall term. Priority registration for spring term happens during the eighth and ninth weeks of winter term. Priority registration for summer term happens during the sixth week of spring term. See the academic calendar for more specific dates.

Registration Tools
Registration is completely in your hands, utilizing a web-based system called DuckWeb. Be prepared to supply your student ID number and your six-digit Personal Access Code (PAC). Your PAC is first provided to you in your acceptance letter from the Office of Admissions. If you are registering for the first time, you will also need your registration PIN (see above).

A couple of registration tips:

  • As a security precaution, click the EXIT link and quit the browser when you are through with Duck Web, especially if you are using a public terminal.
  • Before each term’s drop deadline, recheck your schedule and verify that you are enrolled for all the courses you are attending and that all grading options are correct.
  • Once you have registered for a course, you are liable for the tuition, whether you attend the course or not. You cannot withdraw completely from the university using Duck Web. The system will not allow you to drop your last class, even if the term has not begun. To withdraw completely, use the "complete withdraw" function in your DuckWeb registration menu.

The Class Schedule lists all the courses offered for a particular term. The schedule is searchable; you may search for courses by department, by day and time offered, by the requirement it fulfills and/or by availability. The schedule also lists course prerequisites, special course notes (mandatory attendance, discount tuition, etc.), and other information one might expect to find on a schedule: who’s teaching the course, where it’s taught, what time, what day, etc.
