Students in the Robert D. Clark Honors College do not need to fulfill this requirement. All other UO students must complete (or have credit for) WR 121 and either WR 122 or WR 123. You are encouraged to complete this requirement as quickly as possible. Use your Degree Audit Report on DuckWeb to monitor where you stand on this requirement.

There are several ways you may be exempt from part or all of this requirement:

  • As stated above, honors college students do not need to complete this requirement. However, if you opt out of the honors college, you will need to complete this requirement.
  • An SAT Critical Reasoning score of 710 or an ACT English score of 32 will waive WR 121. Move on to WR 122 or WR 123.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) English Language and Composition: A score of 3, 4 or 5 will waive WR 121. Move on to WR 122 or WR 123.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) English A: A score of 5 or better will waive both WR 121 and WR 122.
  • Transfer credit: Any or all of these writing courses may be transferred in from another accredited institution.

Students who are eligible to take WR 121 are placed into the course according to their last name: Last names that begin with A-G may take WR 121 during fall term. H-O last names may take the course during winter term and P-Z last names may take the course during spring.

There is no alphabet priority for WR 122 or WR 123.
