Information for Honors College pre-journalism students

Inform your journalism adviser if you are in the Robert D. Clark Honors College. We will work with you to incorporate your Clark Honors College courses with your major requirements. Here is some information that may answer some of your preliminary questions:

  • Your Clark Honors College requirements substitute the university’s group requirements that all bachelor’s students need to fulfill. Consult your Clark Honors College adviser and your Degree Audit Report when trying to fulfill your general-education requirements.
  • Journalism pre-major and major requirements for Clark Honors College students remain the same.
  • Although the journalism school lists the university's writing requirement (WR 121 and either WR 122 or WR 123) as a premajor requirement, Clark Honors College students are exempt from this.
  • Clark Honors College students majoring in journalism may use their Clark Honors College literature, history and economics courses toward journalism's literature, history and economics requirements.
  • Clark Honors College courses and colloquiums count toward the 94 credits needed from the College of Arts and Sciences. They also count towards the required 116 non-journalism credits. Although courses with the HC subject code will count toward the journalism general-studies requirement, it does not replace it. Work with your journalism adviser to ensure these requirements are not neglected!
