Edward Boches, Chief of Innovation at Mullen, will visit the School of Journalism and Communication this week as one of two 2011 Richard Ward Executives in Residence. Members of the public and campus community are invited to his keynote presentation this Wednesday, February 9, at 7:00 p.m. in the Pape Room at Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
As an Executive in Residence, Boches
will lead workshops for SOJC advertising students on topics such as curiosity, innovation, and “good creative,” and participate in discussions with SOJC faculty on the future of advertising.
Members of the public and campus community are invited to attend Boches’ Keynote presentation, “The end of us and them: New ways to look at the advertising and communication world as technology and interconnectivity change everything.” at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9 in the Pape Room of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

Boches will also participate in the first TedX Uoregon
conference at the SOJC’s Turnbull Center
in Portland on Friday, February 11. TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes.
is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
The Ward Executive-in-Residence program was launched at the School of Journalism and Communication in 2002 to bring high-level advertising executives from around the world to UO classrooms for two to three day sessions. Their schedules are as action-packed at the school as they might be at the office: including seminars, classes, faculty visits, and public and invited lectures. The program was made possible by a gift from Richard Ward, a 1977 UO Business graduate and a thirty-year veteran of the advertising industry, now CEO of 22Squared in Atlanta. Ward, a former UO Trustee and former member of the School’s Journalism Advancement Council, expanded his support of the program in 2009 in part to further the program’s global impact.
Ed Cotton, director of strategy at Butler Shine Stern, will visit the school from February 22 to 25 as the second 2011 Ward Executive in Residence.
