Andrew DeVigal, Chair in Journalism Innovation and Civic Engagement for the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) was elected to the Independent Television Service (ITVS) Board of Directors. Members of the board are eligible to serve two three-year terms. The Board convenes three times a year for one-day meetings in San Francisco.
ITVS is the largest provider of funding for independent work aimed primarily for public television audiences. Its funding supports independent documentary projects, as well as drama and multi-platform projects.
As Chair in Journalism Innovation and Civic Engagement, DeVigal describes his primary role as “establishing the Agora Journalism Center as a gathering place to participate in the national conversation around journalism innovation and civic engagement.”
“How we tell stories at the Agora Journalism Center directly aligns with how we connect with the public,” explains DeVigal.
His recent election to the ITVS board will allow DeVigal to gain additional perspective on the media landscape and provide guidance as to how the SOJC can remain at the forefront of innovation.
