Stephen J. A. Ward, PhD, Distinguished Lecturer on Ethics, University of British Columbia

Stephen J. A. Ward, PhD, is an author, keynote speaker, and media ethicist who researches the ethics of global, digital media. He is a distinguished lecturer on ethics for the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada. Dr. Ward is founding director of the Center for Journalism Ethics at the University of Wisconsin, co-founder of the UBC School of Journalism in Vancouver, and former director of the George S. Turnbull Portland Center at the University of Oregon. He is author of six books, including the award-winning Radical Media Ethics and The Invention of Journalism Ethics. His new book, Objectively Engaged Journalism, will be published in 2018.

Ward was a war correspondent, foreign reporter, and newsroom manager for 14 years and has received a lifetime award for service to professional journalism in Canada. He is editor-in-chief of the Springer digital Handbook for Global Media Ethics.
