A graduate of Linn-Benton Community College with an A.S. in journalism and mass communication, Emily spent the 2016–17 year as the editor-in-chief of the Commuter, LBCC’s student newspaper. In the fall, she will attend the University of Oregon to earn a B.S. in journalism and a minor in art and technology. Emily grew up with one foot in the Cascade mountains and the other in the big city, splitting her time between Seattle and Leavenworth, Washington. She is a nontraditional college student who is returning to her education after receiving an unexpected call to journalism. She spent her 20s exploring as much of the real world as she could, living on little, and even making it to Brazil and Guatemala. She’s lived all over the Northwest and has a strange penchant for leaping into freezing-cold mountain rivers and swimming in the Pacific Ocean. To her, nothing beats watching her three dogs run like wild things and chase sticks and waves down a beach. Emily is a journalist, artist, musician, songwriter, and traveler. She believes that stories surround us, waiting to be translated through song, art, and pen.
