August got his start in journalism as photo editor for Lane Community College’s newspaper, The Torch, abefore transferring to UO to major in journalism. At the SOJC, he served as a photographer for Flux Magazine in 2016 and as its photo editor in 2017. While at UO, he traveled to Alaska with the Science & Memory team and shot the 2016 Track & Field Olympic Trials and multiple Duck sports, from football to acrobatics. What August is most passionate about, however, is telling the lesser-known stories, such as those he covered about a Paralympian returning from Rio, a family living in an affordable housing community after going through homelessness, and a woman walking a path of redemption after being incarcerated. It is through these stories that August believes one can truly comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.
